The metro rail, initially, was active only in Kolkata. Later on it was introduced in the city of Delhi. This is proving advantageous for people who've to travel long distances for work. Before they used to face traffic on roads but the metros face no traffic. This has improved the transport system in Delhi, and has helped in controlling pollution, reducing traffic on roads and, the greatest thing, in propagating tourism.
But how do metros promote tourism? Actually, they make the tourist spots more accessible. Just think, if there is no traffic, you would certainly like to visit a place more frequently. This is what metros have done. Tourists' arrivals have witnessed an increase of 23.5 % because they've started making frequent visits to India.
By propagating tourism, with the help of well-maintained tourist spots, metros have gained India the 4th rank in 'Dream Destinations of the World'. Conde Naste Travellers, a surveying body, estimated that India's tourist's number is going to swell thus contibuting greatly to Indian economy.
Metros offer one more advantage - they're more secure from terrorist attacks or sabotages than the roadways. Their accident cases are also much less. Many more facilities are provided like electrified railway, e-ticket, etc. Metro rails have also earned the belief of people in timed arrivals.
In this way, metro rails are enhancing tourism in India and also contributing Rs. 21,828 crore to foreign exchange. So, we must encourage the construction of metro rails in other parts of India to repeat the same procedure as in Delhi.
